as per a comment on the "what are you up to in 09" thread......

This is to describe in more detail a game I've been working on in hopes for a few idea to get my brain out of the rut.....


Feast of Goblins
In ever fantasy RPG there are the......chump enemies. The easy to kill, dumb as a post, Mooks. So often they are glossed over, but what is their side? Welcome to the feast!!

In F.O.G. you learn and play on that side. Goblins are not what they seem, not that the truth makes them any better. Formed from the leftovers of creation, living in a dimensional version of a waiting room most live their pathetic lives only to die and be returned to the recycling pit know as "the well of souls" You are not one of them, as the stars align doors to our world open up allowing a choice few to try an take over. If they succeed, They not only get to stay but become a real race at last!

now that all that flavor text is done we can explain a few things.......

1) when random MEANS random..... character creation is randomized in F.O.G. but when we say randomized characters it means MORE. Not only are your starts randomized but your character as well. from what head they have down to what weird Mutations they get.... there is only a few true choices to make. You mostly pick up a hand full of dice, roll, and try to picture what you have before you.....oh and yes there is no balance.....WE SAID RANDOM!!!!

2) Flavored for you enjoyment........ everything in the game is "flavored" meaning that weird names and odd approaches are the norm for F.O.G.

3) lastly I have NO idea what game machanic to use... yet there are all ready bonuses set up in character creation...HELP



so that is the best I can tell you short of making you go to RPG labs and read what I have so far. I starting this game as a joking attemt to make an RPG that my dyslexic feonsa what have an easer time making a character with (thank god for gamer girls!!!!) I can only hope to finish it and that people will enjoy playing it

Thanks for the outline Kuma!

I think this could be quite fun to add a Paranoia element where your character can die over and over but the soul still remains. This would allow the characters to die a lot as goblins (fitting their use in fantasy RPG very well) but not lose their character per se.

What would the characters be doing in each session?
Why not create it as a d20 game? That way, you will have a large number of people ready with the rules.

Alternatively, it sounds a bit old school and might be fun for a sort of module. There are loads of S&W fans and the game is free! I love the idea of playing henchment.

see now that you said that........To be honest, while I started gaming with d&d (that not Ad&D, but D&D. Where elf was a class! I'm not quite 30 yet an some how I seem to feel old talking about gaming) as soon as a pool based system was introduced to me I feel in love.....well there nothing to say a more D&D (straight die roll) like system wouldn't work......hmmmm. I'd have to still make it custom, the game is too "flavored" to be translatable to ether you've suggested.....Darn you!!! :P

Ever read a game called "land of OG" in it there a description of a Larp set up....basically the player trying to get out of a room and the GM wetting her self from laughter......to be honest I'm thinking of doing a pool of d4's we'll see if it works
