Cool article. In the picture they're not RPing, they're playing Catan. Don't get me wrong, Catan is a great game but RPG it ain't.

I was thinking more of the concept of public roleplaying. Ove all the years of playing DND and such, it has always been inside someones home. But this guy made me wonder if maybe it is this environment that has added the "geek guys hiding in thier mothers basement" image to it...not to say I am not a geek.

So what if a group of gamers took their game into the public, dice and all. Anyone up for that challenge?

Here by Buffalo NY we have a public group that sets up games via . I've met twice with them but there is actually a huge group that takes up five of six rooms in Bauldy Hall at the University of Buffalo. There are RPGs and video games and collectable card games all set up there. They also have a game group that meets at Panera Bread on Thursdays that I've never had a chance to visit (busy on Thurs). Maybe you could set up something similar?

Actually it's mostly preaching to the choir at Bauldy. They're all gamers (although not necessarily RPers) I don't know what Panera is like. We used to game in coffee shops years and years ago. Some people took an interest others kept their distance.

I've been running a few games at a local open-air cafe. It's not a big deal either way; I don't think anyone notices. Mind you we don't use miniatures, battle-mats etc.

Which games have you run? Is your group particularly noisy? Mine is. ;)
