Games intruding on real life

Postby SheikhJahbooty » Sun Jan 09, 2011 11:20 am

Is this useful for us?

I mean is it useful, not just in terms of cyberpunk setting creation, but in terms of "Is anyone designing RPGs that take place in real time, like Farmville?" or "Is anyone designing RPGs that real world events or activities affect the course of the RPG, like Fantasy Football, or Geocaching?"

I think it could be useful for us if we figured out a psychological trick to key in on. There are some games that take place in real time. Larping is one example but not everyone is interested in dressing up. Then there is Killers where everyone is a contract killer and you play in real time and in street cloths but nobody knows who is trying to kill who.

But those are old games. They didn't take off. Would they take off now if you had a website that tracked who killed who? Maybe.

What about a leaderboard for a RPG you made? Have a little badge on your facebook page that says how many experience points their character has. People look at it and say "what is that?" then they click on it and it goes to your website with the game and explains that the higher you get your experience points the more points your badge will show. But to get the experience on your badge you have to do a write up of the game you played and that can be turned into an adventure module and if it is, your badge will show how many adventure modules you've made and the link will show all the modules you've inspired.

I could probably go on.

Oddly enough, I just ran into this Which gives a list of web design firms that will help add game theory tools to your website.
