People think I have got the power cause I've got the monkeys. Nope. I've got the power because I'll let the monkeys loose...

Summer reading

Postby jedivampire » Tue Jun 22, 2004 11:15 am

Keeton if you are looking for some good summer reading and interested in short stories I would recommend The Science Fiction Century as compiled and edited by David Hartwell. There are some great short stories. My favorite is called Time In Advance. The premise is that if you serve a prison sentence in advance of a premediated murder you only have to serve half the sentence. Granted you serve it on some of the most inhospitable planets in the galaxy, but if you survive you can commit one murder without any retribution because you've already served the time.

Jeremy really liked that story too, and there are some other great short stories in the compilation.

As far as books and novels go, I am partial to Heinlein -- Stranger in a Strange Land is probably my favorite Sci-Fi book.

If you're into military and military Sci-Fi Timothy Zahn is pretty good.

1. Stranger in a Strange Land transcends Science Fiction.

2. The Dune series is a great combination of philosophy and sci fi.

3 . These are all "books that make ya think." (the above mentioned)

4. Penbot has not read any Ender's Game books.

5. I reccomend "Job: a comedy of justice" by Heinlien. Or, nonsci fi, Zen and the ARt of motorcycle maintenance. (Not Heinlien either.) I quit reading this one half way through. I just got tired of reading about the arthor's obcessions

6. Neromancer! no one's mentioned Neuromancer? And why aren't they makeing it a movie?
