K, I did a read through or two. I'm a numbers and mechanics guy so that's mainly what I focus on to start.

If I understood correctly, the only rolls that really do anything is a 1-4 on a d12. Anytime a 1-4 is rolled that counts as "damage". So I could play this with d6s and counting only 1-2s?

The Attribute values are a bit backward. The higher the attribute value the smaller your dice pool (which I understand, less opportunity to roll a 1-4). I understand why there's the conversion from the attribute values to the dice pools, it's really hard to spend points and have the result count down. However, I'd suggest using the dice pool value as the attribute instead of the current numbers. It will simplify game play.

Actually if all dice pools started at a base level and your generation points just removed a die.

Those were the first two things that jumped out at me.

Hi Onix

Thanks for that. Your comments have led to , where I've switched from d12-d6. I'm not quite sure what you mean by dice pool equalling attribute though: attribute isn't proportional to quality. Also, by all dice starting at base level do you mean dice pool is 16 or 20- stat? Because we had that suggested to us but rejected it because we like the idea of the inverse ratio, because it's more thematic- as you say, the higher the ability the more chance to roll 1-4 (now 1-2). Also, we haven't had any comments about it from our playtesters so far (oh except one, who we managed to convince with the inverse proportionality argument). In any case, it doesn't affect game play becasue we've found that players very quickly internalise the ratio, plus they have it on their cheat sheet.

I'm not saying I'm rejecting the suggestion out of hand- the beta rules are still very plastic- it's just that our experience has shown it not to be a problem so far.

Anyway, I appreciate your taking the time to read the document through: it's very helpful to have a numbers person scanning the ruleset, because the mechanics do come down to algorithms.

I'm now away until May 1st so won't be able to respond to any posts until then.

I look forward to chatting to you about SFBk, old houses and other things when I get back.

Cheers

Hi Rob

Have included an example of damage narration from 0-6 damage, and have sent to Gordon.

Cheers

Instead of an attribute like "6" it would be 14d6. Instead of 9 it would be 12d6 etc. Instead of converting it with a table the ability would be Enhanced senses 12d6 (or 14d12 if you went with d12s).

To generate them an attribute starts at 14d6 and costs one point. Using more generation points on it reduces the number of dice. Spending another generation point reduces the ability to 13d6 spending a third drops it to 12d6 etc.

It just cuts out the step of a player saying "I have a ability of 8, how many dice is that?"

I'll take a look over the next few days when I stop feeling guilty about my own much neglected rules set. ;-)
