I'm a massive fan of NASA and I wish that they had the funding they deserve. Their achievements are for all humanity to enjoy.
Recently, they've been talking about the maths behind a warp drive, which could reach Alpha Centauri in 2 weeks. Those sort of statements make me deliriously happy. They now have a sexy bit of 3D rendering of the IXS Enterprise spacecraft that they imagine would go there. As soon as there is a desire to do something great, the engineering problems to achieve it can start being ticked off. Expensive to get stuff into orbit? Space elevator. Need rope for space elevator? Carbon nanotubes. etc etc.
