24 hour RPGs are really driven by theme and ideas. You don't have time for much innovation or trying to sum up all your years of playing in the prefect rule. A list or competition like this is a great help to newcomers and those who haven't really tried the effort before.

Choosing from a list of ideas doesn't bother me the way having some ready clip art or notes would. However, you can at least wait until your time starts to chose a topic, rather than picking one and starting the game when you find the time.

For the purpose of contests and drawing in people, this sort of set-up may be a necessary evil. If you're making a 24 game by yourself, well then be as strict as you feel is honest.

Finish the game, and feel good about yourself - that is what matters in the end.

I'm with CA, of course. Choosing from the list can be done beforehand. It's not cheating. Writing a game in 24 hours is the challenge and hard enough as it is. In other 24 Hour competitions you just write any topic at all. It might be that game that has been stuck inside your head for years and you're desperate to get out there. Doing it in 24 hours is the difficult bit.

For the more insane/hardcore types, choosing an item when you start is more lunatic and I salute you! It certainly isn't in the spirit of the compo to deny people thinking time.

On another note, I think I might set up a webcam and do mine as a time lapse, you'll be able to see me going mad, playing guitar and insulting the wife while I work!

Shinobicow, I don't drink tea or coffee (and Englishman that doesn't drink tea? CALL THE POLICE!) and I have no palette for the old Bull. I do drink Diet Coke with Cherry, and I shall create a stack in the background. I will be wired by the end of it.

WoW! no tea?! that is harsh. i'm a green tea freak. Drink that stuff by the barrel, but Diet Coke is a close second... well, what passes for Diet Coke in Japan anyway, they don't actually do diet coke here, but they have Pepsi Nex, which is just about the same thing.

[Off Topic] Corone, there are two of us! We should start a support group. Perhaps Tea's Not My Cup Of Tea support group.

Do you find that people look at you strangely when you say you don't like them? They sort of squint in disbelief?

... chocolate... the bane of my existance. I'm allergic... but i didn't get that allergy until i was about 12 and had already come to love it more than angels or Jesus.... i guess that is what i get from god for paying homage to a pagan deity... I just hope he doesn't smite me for my coffee, red bull, and cola addictions; that would truly be hell.
