Quiz & Dragons RPG

Postby ErrinF » Sat Sep 16, 2006 9:54 pm

Well, I've sent in my 24 Hour RPG entry for the video game challenge. It's called Quiz & Dragons RPG, and is based on a 1992 trivia arcade game by Capcom. Here's the link:

It's basically a RPG that revolves around the answering of trivia questions as a way of battling monsters. Kind of a strange pretense, but it was worth making a RPG out of.

I tried to make a 24 hour RPG based on Soul Caliber II and have a not bad system so far but with my 24 hours plus a bit up and its not playable yet so I'm out on this contest. Though I am going to finish the game and submit it as a free RPG here.

Is there anyting that keeps me from selling my RPG on my own after I submit it here?

Well, anything that you create is automatically your copyright and you can do what you want with it... but all the submissions for the computer game challenge are by their very nature based upon the copyright of the computer games which inspired them. They can be created and distributed as works of 'parody' but they can not be sold.

Now if you create a cool game system for your Soul Caliber II parody and you want to use it in a fighting RPG of your own... then, strip away the Soul Caliber specific material. Reformat the game with your own setting and background ideas... and create an original work from it. That would be something that you could claim for your own 100% and sell or whatever.

Well phooey... tomorrow is the 20th and I never did find a continuous 24 Hours that I could rub together to make my RPG... just too much real life going on suddenly... I am sure that other people often experience the same thing. Still, just because the contest deadline has arrived doesn't mean people still can't submit their "Computer Game RPG." I intend to work on one... (just not the 24 Hour type... ) I should have it ready to show off soon. I have some ideas.

Maybe we could talk Keeton into extending the deadline for the contest... if there was sufficient interest and enough people who wanted to participate but just couldn't find the time?

Yikes! The same here! I tried lots of things, but just ran out of time because life is stomping upon me. I had to do it in about 6 hrs at night (it's just morning here in Budapest, and the riots are already over :), to not to bump into any real life something-to-dos.

Really! First I fancied Half-life, then I tried Wolfenstein 3D, after it came Descent, then I was really thinking about Pong (if this is its real name), but I made it already. Only some finishing touches and I'm sending it.

Finally I sent it. "Lemmings the Roleplaying Game to Introduce Roleplaying" is on its way. I hope you all gonna like it.

Well, my attempt at the "computer game to rpg" challenge is now on the site. I went for what I now realize was the overly ambitious goal of converting Master of Orion. Not just the first game, oh no. I had to get material from all three games in there. What was I thinking? Add to this the problems I had inserting the art, and one of my fonts not being installed on the computer that I had to use to do my pdf conversion, and this is easily the worst experience I've ever had making a 24-hour rpg (worst as in, this is the effort I'm least proud of). Ah, well, they can't all be brilliant.

Cool Micheal I am anxious to see Master of Orion... I chose a simularly ambitious project and didn't even attempt the 24 hour marathon. I am just working at my own pace and will post it when I am ready... Phantasy Star Online... the tabletop version...
