Thinking of an RPG idea, and need help.

Postby Chazor » Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:31 pm

Hi Everyone! Name's Chazor, and I am an aspiring Drama teacher and video game addict. I need some help.

See, I have an idea for a game based on Resident Evil. I want it to be rules lite, but also have a level of originality and complexity. I plan on setting it in my hometown for a first mission, so I have a basis.

Here is my problem. So far, only the Risus system seems to be working out for me on this one. Anyone have any suggestions? Please send some my way. Thank you :-)

Also, I LOVE the 24 hour RPG contests! When is the next one? I might want to give it a try.

Hi there
Welcome to the forums

2nd question first
24 hour challenges are usually personal
So if you decide you want to do one, pick the time and place and go for it. All honor system.
When I have done them I post first I am starting, then I force my own self to the deadline I imposed.

Sometimes a few people will get together and start one on their own.

There is coming in March the Game Chef competition, where a group of people will use similar "Ingredients" ala Iron Chef America and such, to craft a game. Stay tuned for more details.

Resident Evil
Only seen the first movie (my bad) so i dont know what to suggest for a system. Do you want it bloody and gorey and crunchy with rules, or a bit lighter in die rolling and more on the "You see the blood splatter" in words sort of feel.

Again welcome, feel free to post more ideas, about how long have you been gaming and what systems have you used in the past you enjoyed playing inside of.

Question

Postby decreased » Fri Feb 23, 2007 3:22 pm

So, do you mean Residental Evil the movie or game? The game is probably more like what an RPG would be (less ammo more running), duh huh? But on this site, is Dead and Back, , give it a look over. Also, try , I'm sure there are a few other zombie games I'm missing. But looking at systems used in other zombie games would be a good start.

Evil Games

There are quite a few options for you on this site alone. To start, there is my game "Dead... and Back". It was designed with a bit of RE in mind - the number of item you can carry is limited, injury slows the character down, and monster creation is fairly maleable. Over at the sister site of 1km1kt.net - RPGlaboratory.com - is a setting called "Anarchy Zones" I'm hashing out for the game. However, for the most part, the rules are universal and can be used for any horror setting. Even if you don't end up playing it, I'd love any feedback you have after a reading.

We also have "The Zombie Plan", "Regs, Dregs, and Zombies" (Though that ismore of a war game), and "The End of the World". Then there is "The Dead" from (Not to be confused with the James Joyce novella) and a few more free horror games are availible from darkshire.net/jhkim/rpg (one of the best resources online for free rpgs. Aside from1km1kt of course;)

If you don't mind spendng some cash, the RPG "All Flesh Must Be Eaten" by Eden Studios would be perfect as well. There is even a RE adaptation of it online.

I wouldn't give up yet...

Admittedly, the field is looking a little full, but don't let that get in the way of your creativity. Thats the great thing about zombies - their socialist and anti-discrimination. mosnters. Elder gods that hold all the power, and grant tiny portions of it to their minions. Vampires chose their childer and control them carefully. Anyone can become a zombie if they put their mind to it.

Feel free to stop by rpglaboratory.com and share some ideas. We love human bra... to help.
