Ahh, an interesting possibility Chef Ben.

Indeed, while PC roleplaying games set in China's Warring States period are legion, table top games are much harder to come by.

However, my ever dilligent staff of fawning attendents did manage to uncover this site which includes reference to a Romance of the Three Kingdoms d20 game as well as Jadeclaw (which may be stretching my own definition of Romanticised somewhat severely).

Well, here's my current idea for this. I think it sounds pretty neat, but I'm still worried about it being in-line with the restrictions on theme.

Hive: Glory of the Suns
(Working title)

Theme:
The Spanish conquest of South America...only the Spanish are human colonists to another planet... and the players get to be the mesoamericans... who are a race of hiveminded insects. Going for themes like cultural collision and banding together against a stonger foe.

Ingrediants:
Entomology - The insectoid people have first contact with humans mostly through researchers. This gradually escalates, but the entomologists always play a strong role in the human invasion, as understanding of the alien insectoid mindset is crucial.

Companion - The players must, absolutely must, work together to repel the human invasion. The mechanics will enforce this.

Accuser - Except, one or more of the players may not be on the same side. The hivemind has been infiltrated by human minds, disguised as insectoids. In addition, renegade "free minds" can also pose a threat, due to their uncontrollable and unpredictable nature.

Invincible - The human invaders seem nigh-invulnerable. Already, many tribes have fallen and been enslaved under the human god-kings. Soon, all hope will be lost.

Restrictions:
Designer Created Cards - Resolution (as I envision it) operates by using color coded cards which are played and linked together (like dominoes in a way) to create action. Each player can add to the growing link and change the outcome of a situation.

Color involved in resolution - See above, the color codes correspond to certain types of action.

Possibly no character sheets - Not yet sure that I'll need them anyway.

Depending on how well the card-based resolution works, I may or may not go for dice with 3 bits of info. I do like the challenge of that, though, and I love dice systems.[/u][/b]
Dark Spire Design - Creative, Innovative, Nonexistant.

Children of Rhyme and Reason

Just a quick posting:

Theme - Set in an alternate universe Victorian Era Europe.

The Chilren of Rhyme are the magically inclined, the Children of Reason are the scientifically inclined. Outside forces are playing them against each other.

Ingredients -
Companions - Mystical personifications of the supernatural, tied to the Children of Rhyme. What allows them to use magic
Invincibles - Horrific clockwork monstrosities created by deranged Children of Reason, usually homicidal.
The Accuser - A Child of Rhyme with religious mania who is quite mad. He is determined to destroy anything "unnatural," which includes all Children.

Rules Limitations -
The resolution system is based on colors. Players draw colored marbles (or whatever) and try to match a color that the GM has.
Also possibly using cards and maybe not having a character sheet.
100% Crack and Doom. But more Crack than Doom.
