Charles the Bald - playtest - it's all in my head!

Postby matthijs » Tue Aug 02, 2005 3:07 pm

Yeah, I playtested Charles. And I did it all by myself. Surprisingly, that worked pretty well. The wine helped, I guess. You can read about it

Thanks to the reviewers for pointing out that it's impossible to get a feel for the game without playing it. I should definitely have put in more examples of play, but chose instead to lie awake at night thinking about the mechanics :)

There definitely is some emergent behavior in CtBisf, especially wrt how narration turns out to be limited & guided by tactical choices. Hope the pdf makes it clearer.

And it clearly isn't an RPG; it's a game of competitive narration, which I'm getting to like more and more after being nonplussed and annoyed after trying to play . (Which I believe is probably a great game if you take away the superhero stuff, but I'm having a hard time finding players for it).

So, yeah. 164 clicks, no comments.
I can understand that; I read a lot of threads that I don't reply to myself. However, since I'm hoping to make CtBiSF interesting for others except myself (and my imaginary players), I was wondering if you, reading this, could tell me a bit about why you didn't feel like posting to this thread.

1. Did you read the "playtest" pdf?

2. Have you read the rules?

3. How much do you feel you know about how the game works? (Nothing, a little bit, a whole lot...)

4. Do you find the basic concept interesting? (Competitive storytelling/board game)

Hey, just wanted to give you some sort of feedback since you asked.

I haven't spent any time looking at Charles the Bald except a very cursory glance over the rules.

It sounds really cool, and I hope to spend more time looking over it, but right now, life is taking up most of my time (kids, work, wife, etc).

Just thought I'd give you some sort of feedback per your request.

Later...
We know what we know because someone told us it was so.
