A vaguely on topic discovery

Postby Rob Lang » Wed Feb 10, 2010 8:22 am

Things at home are pretty fraught - son bawling and Mrs and I are stressed. I took a few moments last night refactor the Arms 2 model and it felt very relaxing. The Arms 2, like many of the Icar models are fine in the current issue of the Equipment Index but in the new one everything is very sharp because the resolutions are that much better. The upshot is that the model doesn't look very good when rendered in high resolution. I use the original as a starting point and then tweak and increase the detail, adding image maps.

I didn't finish the new Arms 2, so don't have anything to show just now but the act of tweaking things in 3D left me very relaxed.

You find dabbling in art, relaxes you? Perhaps you are an artist.

Perhaps but a frustrated one if so as I really FAIL at drawing people.

Picasso was never any good with figurative drawing, as were many other masters. But to be honest you're not *that* good.

LOL :)

Who cares about drawing people? People you can photograph. Humans are common, you can just give a quick description of a specific one. If your art critic doesn't know what a H. Sapien already looks like, you probably shouldn't be taking their advice.

@Misterecho - I think you've got the right bits in there, just not in the right order.

@Thought - a brilliant excuse I might just use. The only difficulty with that (as with all sci fi) is that as soon as you make something canon, you need to justify it. Have been in hot water trying to justify whimsy before.

@CA - I think I can render people although I'm picky and want it to be JUST SO. I might pay for someone to do some graphics for me.

Here's the WIP for the new pistol I was referring to. Second set of texturing to do next.
