Worse comes to worse go on Wikipedia and get an idea for the theme. You're not required to replicate the movie, just to use some of its ideas and themes. Or do what I did couple of nights ago - go and hire the film. Went and saw Imaginations of Doctor whatshisface the other night, after hearing the name for the first time here.

I've watched parts of "Braveheart" and Mystery Men" and I'm inclined to go to the library to find "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" since that sounds like a fun film to include. (Possibly Snatch as well - we need a heist film)
Is there a difference between "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" and "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly" other than a possible typographical error?
I'm not such a big fan of James Bond films, and most of the ones I've seen are with Pierce Brosnan. I'm not opposed to having them on the list - and Bond is now more a meme than any specific movie.

It occurs to me that if we're trying to get our genres covered, we're missing quite a few. Then again, I don't think there would be much desire to see "Psycho meets Triumph of Will" or "Nightmare on Elm Street + Spartacus". Hmm slave uprising fighting the Roman empire by entering their dreams...
Games of imagination are never truly done. Yet tomorrow we shall start another one.
Incidentally, K-Pax is the American remake of the Argentine film, Hombre Mirando al Sudeste.
Although I don't see how that would be useful in coming up with a role-playing game unless someone always wanted an excuse to combine The Adventures of Baron von Münchhausen, Penny for Your Thoughts, and Powerkill.
The Adventures of Baron von Münchhausen was an awesome movie. Primarily because at the end you're left saying "okay, what just happened?" and I'm pretty good at understanding convoluted story lines. Brazil made sense to me, The Adventures of Baron von Münchhausen confuses me to this day.
Maybe cross off the list any films that have already explicitly inspired commercial RPGs. (Ghost Busters, Star Wars, Aliens) Cross off all genre defining films. (Night of the Living Dead) Even cross off those films that a RPG existed before the film but they were both inspired by the same intellectual property. (Lord of the Rings, Conan, 007, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most superhero movies)
Just a suggestion. I think it would make for more interesting submissions. The down side is it may make the contest hard if all the movies are a bit odd.
Tygertyger seems to have ahandle on it though, with his Sweeney Todd + Soilent Green mashup idea.
I think it should be ok to use a well known trope filled classic such as ghostbusters or star wars and mix it with something completely unexpected. I think that will bring out some really interesting entries too.
