[2013] A Flask Full of Gasoline

Postby Dyson Logos » Thu Nov 07, 2013 3:32 pm

I'm starting my 24 hr RPG entry NOW based entirely on the insane conversation of Rob Lang and Evil Scientist.

More details as I create them (details that is).

PS: Long time no see, folks. Last time I was in these parts was when I wrote Geodesic Gnomes for another 24 hr RPG contest... 4 years ago? I may not have won with Gnomes, but the fact that people other than myself still run it at conventions tells me it was pretty good.

Decision 1: Design right in InDesign from the get-go. Some idea splattering will occur using Evernote, but I won't even cut-paste from there, I'll just use it to jot down ideas I want to use. Actual typing and graphic design will be straight in InDesign so the feel and structure works consistently through the whole document.

Decision 2: Not going to take this one too seriously. Like, not as seriously as I took Geodesic Gnomes. Hopefully I can pound this bastard out in 8 hours instead of 24.

Decision 3: The Name & Cover

So thanks to Rob Lang and Mad Scientist for having the conversation that lead to this.

I think the feel I'm going to run with is faux-serious.

As in the game will present itself as being dead serious and hardcore as fuck. But really, I don't expect anyone to play it as written.

I'm thinking of mechanics that involve throwing bullets around and pounding back shots of booze as we progress.

Components Needed

Poker Table & Chairs (because it's time we show people that REAL games can be played at a poker table)
Shot glass for each player
Bottle of 190-proof grain alcohol (hmm... does this violate the "no numbers" rule?)
Flask full of gasoline
Pile of bullets
Box of matches

I'm thinking that the winner gets to burn something down, and the loser HAS to burn something down.

Competition... competition is fun.

Having a winner and a loser makes this competitive right out of the gate. The winner gets to burn down what he wants to burn down, the loser HAS to burn down whatever the majority of the players at the table want him to burn down. So it sucks to be the loser when you are told to go burn down your mother's house.

SO DON'T BE THE LOSER.

Using this font size there is no way I'm going to be able to push everything I want into a single pocketmod.

So I'm going to do two. One for Players (with the character sheet on the back page) and one for the Dealer.

Alright, had to change some wording because the font used in that sample page I posted made it hard to distinguish between lower case f and lower case t.

Player's Book is done, and edited
Dealer's Book is done, unedited

I might have time to write up a sample adventure!

Seriously - one of the hardest parts right now is deciding whether to use "jigger" or "shot glass" in the text.

I want them to be using shot glasses, but not the tall narrow ones because it will be way too hard to throw a bullet into one of those from across the table - also that might knock the shot glass over. Thus the jigger.

But shot glass sounds way cooler than jigger.
