[2013] HEI$T_ACES

Postby level27geek » Mon Nov 11, 2013 1:06 pm

Just finished my pocketmod, submitted it to 1KM1KT but I will also share it here in a screen friendly version.
is a narrative heist-crawl game - plan a heist and run it in a fashion similar to a dungeon-crawl.
I didn't have space for any setting, so I tried to show the "near future" setting trough layout.
This is a first game I ever completed (even though I started probably a dozen of them) and I am quite proud of myself for finally finishing something.

Before I started, I knew I wanted to use a deck of cards, because it has a "limited luck factor" and I liked the mechanic of running out of cards = shit hits the fan. Then I thought that running out of cards can mean the alarm is sounded - so a heist theme came to me. Then I remembered and I thought I might be onto something.
I did research heist media (games, books, movies) before I started, and I hope it won't count against the 24h limit.

Anyway, I hope some of you will enjoy it and maybe even play it.

Thanks man! It is a huge ego boost to hear (read?) this from you (as I am lurking on blog for years now).
I will try to write a "post-mortem" about the game and creation of it... this maybe will revive my long forgotten blog :P

Damn, I think we may have a winner.

As a fellow entrant, I feel my entry is not totally sub-par, but.... this is a cracking game - lovely visuals, pleasing mechanics, and well-thought out spacing. You're blowing me out of the water!

Very impressed!

Looks awesome, but I'm afraid some of the smaller details might get lost during pocket-modification :( Or have you tried?

Thanks for the kind words guys, this really makes me motivated to do more (maybe I will finish another game for NaGaDeMon?).

@Evil Scientist - some details (especially the words in the word cloud/skyline on the cover) get too small to read, but still look good and are distinguishable. You can check the pocketmod in the , even printed looks pretty good.

I am afraid that this game has (too?) high barrier of entry (you need to be familiar with fate's aspects, the narrative "yes,but...", etc.), but I hope that people will enjoy it nevertheless.
I am also tempted to do a proper rulebook (maybe 12 pages or so) explaining the quirks and keywords, so as long as one player read the full rulebook, the whole team can play using only the pocketmod ;)
