Write, play and discuss a game in a month NaGa DeMon

Our very own , Nathan Russell, is running his superb competition this month. The aim is to write, play and tell everyone about your game in the course of November. I've .

Anyone fancy it? A the very least, you could plug it on your blog!

I'm still up to my eyes with my epic guide to writing an RPG and Icar stuff but it would be excellent impetus if you have an idea bubbling away.

Arg, it's taken me more than a month to just hammer out half an RPG idea. I'm really too slow at this to compete. I started my Steampunkfitters project on Sept 29th. That means I'd have three days to finish it.

I do have a lot of things that keep me distracted. Maybe if I could concentrate on one thing I could do this.

I'll be rather busy this November, though I might be able to write something during the 22 hour flight, or the interior flights, and the long one back.

What occurs to me though, is that we need a longer term contest. Neither 24 hour, nor NaGa, require or encourage follow-up. (Indeed, a 24 hour game can leave you a little burned out, depending on how much sleep you got.)

So let me propose a ten-year long contest. Not only do you need to produce a cogent game, but publish it as well. Judging will be based on how many thousand copies are sold, the number of additional staff you need to hire for producing source-books, if a special edition is produced, and if anyone decides to publish a videogame base on your Intellectual Property.

Oh, wait, that would be the ENies and GAMA recognition...
Games of imagination are never truly done. Yet tomorrow we shall start another one.

my new RPG blog.

I'm definitely going to try with a choose-your-own-adventure-thing-amoj, probably with The Dove as the scene/setting/background. And to make things worse, I'll try to program my own little "choose-your-own-adventure-compiler" as well, to compile my story into different formats.
I mean, what's a heart for if not being stressed?

I'm totally going to do this. Does having someone else's art count as a violation of the rules? I'm unsure. Given what they said in the "Who Owns It?" section I'd say no. Either way I have a friend who volunteered to do some powered-armor suit illustrations. It's not one of the long list of games I'm working on (or, unfortunately, Orchestra, which hasn't seen much love recently due to college papers).

The rules are pretty fast and loose, Kylsegames, intended to provide a friendly kick in the pants for those who need one to get things done! :) The stuff about copyright etc is simply my ("I'm not a lawyer") advice on keeping yourself legal. If you have art, use it. In fact, there are lots of sources of art that could be used, depending on the final copyright status of your work (CC, etc).

Chainsaw Aardvark, if the final condition of that competition is "Have your game purchased by a company with no experience in tabletop games and let the whole project [REDACTED]", then White Wolf has already won!

Good luck with your attempts, folks!

See, I love this but much like the Nanowrimo it's a case of if you don't really do a lot of games, then it's a good starting point. At the end of the month you should have some really good playtest feedback for what you're doing, if you can find a group of playtesters. I'd participate, but every month is Naga DeMon for me, especially since I'm back in my hidey-hole trying to find ways to the new book we have coming out in December.

However, I did find that tweet by Jonathan Walton was kind of annoying. He was all like, "We design games in a week" and then the ones that get turned into games go through months, if not years of playtesting and tweaking because that's how it goes.

I do wish those interested good luck though.
I also do which isn't much, but it's enough for me.

Koi, I do take your point about some designers bragging how quickly they can excrete games from their fat, pussy glands but for the rest of us mortals, it's great to have someone put together a competition to kick us into life and common purpose!

And for once, I'm thrilled it's not me. ;)

Actually, I've been thinking about writing this upcoming game for a while yet- only reason it's not done is that it's not Orchestra (which normally takes priority) and I have papers due.
