at age 14 I took and IQ test (real one, not this online crap) IQ when answering by speech alone= 130 (if I remember it right). IQ when having to answer using writing or other none spoken methods= 80 (which is borderline mental retardation)

after 30 years I have built a few methods for coping but they include a LOT of time. which is why I never throw in an attempt at a 24 hour rpg.....just can do it in that small of time.

thanks By the way

Sure! We're all buddies here.

A note about IQ tests: they are ALL rubbish. Every single intelligence test ever created doesn't actually measure intelligence. This is because you can't measure something that is so poorly defined and when they do try and test for it, they fail to measure very important facets of intelligence. A good example of why intelligence tests are rubbish is that you can get better by practising a small amount. The more intelligence tests you do, the better you get at them. However, you're not getting more intelligent, just better at sitting the test.

IQ tests of days-gone-by were based very much on subjective knowledge. These days they are based on shape pattern recognition, word and numerical analysis. These are poor measures of intelligence because they are not testing how well you have absorbed shape, language and numericy, not your actual intelligence. Shapes, you might think are abstract enough to be a good generic test but shapes aren't natural object and the more you've been exposed to bold shapes, the better you will be at the test.

Abstraction, natural language processing, social awareness, task learning, repetition, memory recall amongst facets that are not tested. And can't be.

So, ignore the tests. And ignore people who claim they have an IQ or X or Y. Intelligent people do tend to score highly but this does not mean that the test is a good one, it just means that some intelligent people happened to be intelligent in a manner that performs well in the tests.

Finally, I can code a machine to learn how to get an IQ of 200 but that doesn't mean that I or the computer is intelligent.

General (universal) IQ tests are rubbish and pointless. Some tests might be useful for employers to pick out people for certain jobs. But using them for evaluating intelligence in general... Rob has all the reasons contra listed in his post.

Some time ago my mom applied to a job pool (of a big international organization - they collect people's resumés and just call them in when they are needed), which required passing a test with tons of pattern recognition kinda stuff. She tried some sample tests and was really bad at them, but then we just sat down for an hour and mastered all the ten or so types of tasks. So the only thing they tested was weather the person cared enough to waste an hour to practice.

*a light whine of a motor running, then the screen before you is filling with colored lines. they focus as words appear* HELLO my name is Dr. L. Keeton. I can see you but you can't see me...I can hear you as well. but this screen is all I have to speak back. HOW? oh look up to the corner. thank strange sphere with the iris aperture is a Motion camera. In fact the high brightness to the lights in this place tend to aid the photo-electric receptors in the camera. That quaint little circle to the right of the Televisor is why I can hear...something to do with piezoelectricity and the diaphragm it is stuck in. To get to the point I need your help, those damned Luddites have sealed me into the room and then bombed this places.... yes hence your head ache. The internal camera system is working, I can unlock a few rooms for you....but I'm afraid you to be more help to me then the opposite. First off....what is your name?

thought I'd do a quick character creation opener to get my mind a working

better late then....

*Well well, the pleasure is mine, I'm sure. I think I have found a way in which to aid us both. I sorry to say that time will be needed...well while I can see from the Televisor your age and sex the audio horn on my end is a bit off. So I hardly no by which land you came to learn the Crowns english. So do tell, where are you from? By what do you earn your purse? And what winds have blown you to the Red Planet?
