My NaGaDeMon Project

Postby PeckishGamer » Thu Nov 01, 2012 11:33 pm

I've decided to take the bull by the horns and go full force into National Game Design Month. My game is a tabletop wargame based in a setting I created. The setting is a sci-fi-fantasy anime mash-up. The imagined system is inspired by Warhammer (40k and Fantasy), but aims to be easier to learn. I love how many options that Warhammer provides when building armies, so that is the main part I am trying to emulate. This project could best be described as Warhammer meets VSGMR, set in an original universe.

VSGMR stands for Very Simple Generic Miniatures Rules, and is my starting point. To create a rulebook of my own, I took the VSGMR system and made modifications.

VSGMR system: http://dominowriting.com/SimpleMinisRevised.pdf

My Modifications: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Liq ... vlraM/edit

Those two documents together comprise my rough draft for the rulebook. I am going to be using this thread to post updates about my game as I progress, as I do not have a blog of my own.

Any feedback is welcome. Good luck to all of the other demon slayers out there!

That there is some great progress! I'm not going to go into any detail, as I'm writing my own but it's clear that you're doing really well.

One week in and I've made good progress. I've had two playtests, both with small errors, but nothing that requires revamping the game. I have also completed a rough version of two Rosters, which are books that give all of the information one needs to play an army. The rough versions are lacking lore sections, formatting and final editing, but they are still done enough to play with (and present).

Roster for the Seraphics, an army of religious humans lead by angels:

Roster for the Abyssials, an army of shadowy humanoids focused on magic:

These rosters are mostly a compilation of numbers, so they may or may not be interesting to view.

Now, as for the playtests. The first one went remarkably well, but I made a huge error and forgot to take notes. The second playtest actually went worse, mostly due to the fact that I had created a ridiculously broken character. Check out Enkastein the Mighty in the Seraphic Roster- that guy used to have 6 Wounds, 3+ armor, 5+ Ward, and a trait that let him reroll missed armor saves! On top of that, he costed less than he does now! Needless to say, once I saw him in play I knew I had messed up and I lowered his power level significantly.

Overall, bar the Enka ordeal, I was extremely happy with how the game played. It was smooth, intuitive and was wrapped up in less than two hours. I will be posting the Final version of the Rule Book within the next several days.

I love me a good miniature battlegame.

Once the month is over I'll try to have a good look through this and offer some critique.
