Obviously, i am fine. Just a little background- I was duty officer on Tsunami weekend. Which basically means I was point man for the Embassy when we started realizing just how bad the situation was. I ended up spending a day on the phone with Washington DC, New Dheli (our regional hub) and Sri Lanka trying to track down all of our personnel that were in the area. It turned out that we had a lot of people in the area- through only a few that were in the line of fire- and no one from the Dhaka Embassy was lost.
There were only 2 official deaths from the Tsunami in all of Bangladesh. For a country normally a bit of a magnet for disasters- it was a lucky break for the whole country.
The following month was busy. While the press in India were at time critical of the US, the press here in bangladesh was much more friendly and I took the opportunity to make a press blitz on the US and Western World's behalf to ensure that our efforts to help were getting due credit. I ended up getting to help coordinate a huge airlift using US military planes to carry specially made protein biscuts to Indonesia that were made here in Bangladesh.
So, all-in-all, a very busy month.
Thanks for looking out for me Grifflik.
