Computer RPGs at the Table Top

Computer RPGs at the Table Top

I was just thinking about the relationships between classic pen and paper style roleplay and today's computer RPG. It made me wonder... what computer RPG aspects (specifically from MMORPGs) would you like to see "lifted" from the computer world and transplanted to the table top? What computer RPG would you most like to see as a table top RPG?

Hmmm... I was hoping for some kind of response on this... The computer RPG as it exists is a direct result of RPG gamers like you and I attempting to recreate the fun we have had at the table top using a computer substitute for the DM. Since their very tenuous beginnings the computer RPG has come of its own. It is a powerful entity that now over shadows it's tabletop origins and may (if things keep going the way that they are) one day replace the table top RPG all together.

So looking back at the computer RPG and its evolution, is there anything that we can learn? Are there tools or mechanics adopted by computer RPG's that might enhance the table top experience.

I have recently become enamored of "Guild Wars" myself. I love the way the game system allows players to combine two distinctive class combinations to forge one character. I liked it so much, I ran a recent D&D campaign that required all players to multi-class. And just yesterday I posted a 24 hour RPG to the 24 hour challenge that is an attempt to create a game with a dual class model that will allow for a character creation experience similar to that which "Guild Wars" offers.



Is the submission. I think it's pretty good. Give it a look.
