Its about effort and finishing, escaping the months/years until perfection mindset, and breaking the inertia of old patterns. This is a challenge to get a game that is in your head onto paper.
Almost any game, including miniature simulations, can fit this ideal - at least in my opinion. One limitation I would add though, is that it needs to be a game where the participants have a role more in depth than player. Pretending to be a general of an army can be considered a form of role-play, but a card or board game where you're simply competing against others would not.
I aware of only one other attempt at a war game in 24 hours, my very own . Its the third 24 hour game I attempted (the second failed to be completed, the first was "") and hardly one of my better efforts.
new to the forusm and to the idea of 24 HR RPG as well, and i love the idea. I have been into game design for a long time, but i never found a related website.
I am excited to enter this and am still trying to decide between
Doom and Cookies!! and Oblivion Folder. I will post when i decide for sure.
Nice to see that there is a community for up and coming game designers.
i spent alot of time culling the list of choices. first i gave up on all the ones others had done before me to make sure i picked something i could have be uniquely mine. then i culled everything i couldnt come up with any initial ideas for. After a little more culling i got it to the 2 i posted. Doom and cookies was drawing me up a black, but Oblivion folder is A. more obscure, B. gave me a nifty setting idea and C. has the most potential for sillyness and seriousness as i see fit.
now to find time between my 2 kids (3 and 1 yrs old), searching for a job (currently unemployed) and the rest of life to get the show on the road. i hope to get to do the deed soon though, lest i forget something awesome.
As for this weeken, i am DM-ing a 3.5 D&D game and have been planning that. so 24HRRPG will have to wait till sunday at the earliest, but I am betting on next thursday or friday to be more likely

P.S.: i have been poking around the other submissions and am a little blown away by the visual quality. I have photoshop skills and and a computer related background but i am still baffled how people are getting such lovely layouts in a mere 24 HRS. I truely am a designer of games not of Graphics i suppose. the realm of the visual representation has always been my dump stat :P
good dump stat reference shoe, that's funny. what would my dump stat be... athletics... no probably dexterity in real life.
Well, i'm throwing in the towel on Earth! Battle for Dominion. Just too much to do at the moment and its too big a game to get done. o well, i'll probably pick up another topic at some other point. Posting my game as it stands tonight for good measure and then when i get it done, i'll post it again. (all on my blog of course).
