That's a good idea. Tunnels and Trolls had treated a rugby (whatever the huddle bit is called) and players pooled their scores and rolled one die per side, unless it was broken up into sub-battles. But I didn't like the overall implementation.
You could also limit the total number of actions to a sid, or limit # of a given type. I'm mainly thinking for the opposing side. As it is, I often due statistical estimation or assume 3 goblins are helping the 4th so there's one good roll instead of 4 rolls. But team mechanics would make it easier to run squad of opponents. You could also tweak rules to get an optimal group size with decreasing returns of scale after that - partially due to density of people in an area and partly to keep the small group of PCs heroic.
