So, I was working on 2km2kt last night. The is very cool. I was investigating database migrations (an automated of updating the database), which works really very well. I was impressed! There is the usual problem of getting configuration wrong but the Symfony system explains clearly what it is you're not doing right. I like.

I was also looking into Security. The aim will be to use the forum (which runs PHPBB 3) for authentication and authorisation (with a z for Americhums). Authentication is about who you are and whether you're logged in. Authorisation is about what you can do. Registered users will be able to manage their own games but Editors will be like moderators and will be watching the queue of anonymous uploads (which is mostly spam).

The aim is that when you're logged into the forum, you're automatically logged into 2km2kt. This is not only a handy feature but a pragmatic approach - I don't want to have to write authentication and authorisation code.

This is all boring infrastructure that we need before anything interesting happens but at least there is some progress!

its more just techical, not boring. Glad to here that its moving along, been waitting with a mop and bucket for "cleaning" day around here. I was thinking if any bots come in while we're polishing up the site we could clean them then spray paint these with 1km1kt tags....like a bathroom wall!!!

YAY! Tonight I'v made a bit of progress that looked sticky in places:

Alright, that's not very impressive. Most of it doesn't work but the important bit is in the top right hand corner - I'm logged in to a phpbb 3 installation on my local machine. The 2km2kt site can take its authentication from the forum! YAY! The code is pretty dirty and needs some cleaning but that's next.

The thing I am working on is file upload. Most people will want to upload one file for one game. I understand that some games have 10 files and go through 20 versions but the vast majority of games are a 1-for-1.

The file upload control needs to cater for all browsers (not just nice new ones) and I am certainly not going to code everything myself. That leaves me in a sort of sickly position where I have to try a few difficult controls out and see how they fit into the Symfony. It needs to be a nice fit. Single file upload isn't difficult, so I am sure I'll find something cool.

Would it be possible to have a ZIP-download-thingy: the author makes a "package" of his uploaded files (really just states what files to be included in a named package), and then the curious user can click a single link (for example, "Download core rules + example characters sheets + example setting", named by author), and get a single ZIP-file to download (the ZIP would be generated on the server, obviously).

I'll just cram this request right in here between item 2938 and 2939.....sloooowly...sloooowly....

Um, something fishy is going on. Rob had replied to Groffa but now this spam like message from Fool is in it's place. Is this a test?

Also, is anyone else having trouble with the stay logged in cookie?
