So, what are we doing Right Now?

Postby Chainsaw Aardvark » Tue Apr 23, 2013 8:38 pm

I figured its about time to survey the forums and see who is participating in what contest, or which games are being prototyped. Everyone all right? The Free RPG Blog hasn't had any new reviews in six months.

As for myself, it is the usual over abundance, plus or minus a few new ideas.

Every time I sit down at my computer, there is work to be done on Dead and Back. I think its mostly collecting the stories in a reasonable collection, combined with some editing and some more discussion of the optional rules (default game modes/difficulty). Of course, every time I sit down at my computer, I end up playing video games instead.

There was a brief flurry of activity on the Sputnik 2 project with the April 12th anniversary (30 years since the first shuttle fight!)

Our recent discussion of espionage game has me making some notes on a project called "Everyday Spies", and in turn, a variation of my spies as a rock band: "Intrigue on the B Side".

I've also made notes for an aviation/cyberpunk game. Think "the last free bush pilots"in a world with no highways, and tightly controlled rail connections.

Not necessarily an RPG, but with some of my friends, I'm designing a tabletop 4X game. We noticed that there are a lot of these that focus on space (Master of Orion, Eclipse, etc.) or long periods of history (Age of Empires, Civilization) but none that follow the recovery after a major disaster. So we're making a post apocalyptic of exploring and and recovering resources from a city.
Games of imagination are never truly done. Yet tomorrow we shall start another one.

my new RPG blog.

Hm.. that would (possibly) be Game Chef, in about four weeks' time. Oo-er! Anyone else from these boards participated in Game Chef before? Or even Masterchef at a pinch...
Currently promoting (published November 2013) and working on several other games: visit the for details.

I've been running and really . It took a huge amount of prep, which is why I have a NagaDeMon and D&B blog post waiting unfinished. I've discovered and joined an (guild). I only put in a few hours a week but it's a glad break. I play a bit of minecraft (building a ). I've also been working on my too. Trying to get that to a reasonable state. I'm writing an Icar novel (nothing to show yet). I've also changed jobs (my last one was stupid). My new one is nice. So, rather a lot.

This week I've been chatting to Michael Wolf about life and stuff and we've made a blog pact. We're both going to do a post by Friday. I'm halfway through the review and I am enjoying it.

I try and break my evenings into 45 minute chunks on each project.

I've been in Game Chef a couple of times. The first attempt was Terribly Beautiful (downloadable at 1km1kt), the second was Spirited, available nowhere unless you were part of the competition. It was a long time ago. I'm not likely to return to competition this year, either. Maybe next year.

I've been working on my essays for Research Methods in preparation for my dissertation (the big essay that rounds out the PhD). They're roleplaying game related, but not game designs. Once I finish these essays, I need to fix up Terribly Beautiful for a conference. I really need to create a conference-playable game. Perhaps that could be my next challenge.

Finishing year End, and preparing for the Annual Audit.

Other than that, playing Minecraft and Terriara . . . though I really should be tweaking RoL.
Check out Realms of Lore (RoL) at the RPGLabratory.

I've done GameChef a few times, even managed to be a finalist one year.

I'll probably do it again this year.

At the moment though I'm working on my fantasy board game "Town Guard".

I'm doing the , but other than that there haven't been much gaming going on.

After talking to a friend last night, we decided to give a try, for writing Interactive Fiction. My first project will be just a single room (the antiques shop in Horsehead), but the plan is to have a game where the player must travel the (Rustfoot) land from western shore to the eastern, while avoiding the Grinding (a thing that grinds you to world dust).

Oh and today I'll post a letter containing a blank hexmap and some rules. The next person will then add his hexes, and then mail it to another receiver, and so on, till the map is complete. It'd be fun if it made its run around the globe!

Since I've reading the topic heading again, and since my current activities have changed...I'm now designing a font.

(Don't worry, it's still game related)

I've found my self in a true creative quagmire, for about a month now. While normally if I'm not working on an rpg I'm working on SOMETHING, right now I have no drive to do anything. this is mostly due to my work sceg crossed with there being things I need to work on in my life, but can't atm.

I have slowly chipped away at "fixing" F.O.G. mostly trying to make the rolled body parts list a d20 for each. after that mutations and form flaws will get a look...oh and added the bits that needed tweaking (what is unarmed damage, and fixing the unskilled rule)

I have a few good games sitting on my comp in various stages...but nothing even close to done.

I'm thinking about finally running my own compo on here, just taking a page from Rob's book and making the prizes a $50 gift voucher for amazon, Drive through rpg, or MAKE (we're mostly geeks here so who wouldn't want a techno toy). I'm still working on what the theme will be but the twist is I will be handing the contestant's the barest bones rule of BARD (my subjective word based system idea)....of course I need to finish those bare bone rules XD...

so to recap..I'm doing nothing atm but will be trying to push past it and get something done soon.....
