QOTW#10 Do you want your RPGs mixed with other game types?

Video games, board games, acting games, (mind games?) do you like mixing designs from different kinds of games? If so, what are your current favorites?

I like a little board gameyness on occasion. I like when a board is used to represent game state.

I love mash ups.

My current Voidstone Chronicles project incorporates a lot of elements from video game design but filters them through miniatures and boardgames to get them to interface with the RPG elements.

I've played with a few crossover type concepts over the years.

I'd love to hear what other people have been doing with regards to this.

I am thinking of a crossbreeding between fate to go and dominion. You play cards to create your own story deck by adding more cards.

I also love the lore of magic the gathering and played a few oneshots with different systems.

Could be fun. But its to early to decide. Sounds promising.

I think it's one of those solid concept/dangerous implementation things where it's easy to go way wrong.

Still, it has a few elements I'm really proud of, such as world generation as a play feature, and with a little work it could be pretty interesting.

The first time I crossed game types was for a contest in which I made Coils of the Orinoco. It had board game elements to it. For a different contest I created a board game of the same name that had roleplaying elements. It was innovative, but the original intent wasn't to create an innovative game, it was to create a fun story. Games need to be fun or informative, possibly both. The fact that there were crossover elements didn't occur to me until after the first contest ended.
