Im a beginner in role playing an I'd like to find a free fantasy rpg to get started. I downloaded lots of them from this site but I don't know which one to start with.
Hello Commodore and welcome to the forum. sorry for the slow traffic lately. I'm not sure what they are all working on? Welcome to role playing too. Your brand new to it huh? sorry for all the questions but I'm just trying to get a feel for what you like or wht your currently playing.
Honestly, I'm not the best to recomend which system to choose from our little collection. I'll look over them and dig up some recomendations for ya. Some of the games are designed to be played in one setting and might be nice quick learning experiences for ya.
I'll try to get some suggestions up for ya within the next 24 hours.
welcome again, C C aka Penbot 2004
Thats a review of 6 of the past 24 hour rpgs. From the review, The Hidden World would seem to be the pick of the litter. I haven't read that game but Evan gave it a very high rateing.
Second, there was a whole batch of games submited this past week. ah, guess I better get back to the drawing board?
Thanks for helping. Yes, I am a beginner in role playing. All I know is D&D is good and I'd like to play it if I had the money . Is FUDGE worth playing?
I haven't played Fudge? I read the Fudge Lite rules once. I didn't really like the dice system and I don't know anyone else who plays Fudge. There are plenty of games that have a "dice pool" system like Fudge. One of the independents is Dice Chucker. You can play Dice Chucker on line with a little group at Look in the Avaliable Worlds tab on the left. Then look under "other" & Red Moon.
We play a fantasy setting and I believe the group needs a magic user.
As far as needing money to play D & D, I suggest getting the 3.5 handbook if you can and want to play the game. If you have a group to play with I imagine the other players will share other game material. If you just want to run a D & D game of your own, I'd say you could do it with the PHB alone. Cause the fun of the games is in the playing not in the rules. I guess that's why we all want to make up our own rule sets?
I don't know why I didn't mention this sooner? One of the 24hour rpgs that looks fun is Myth. You should be able to find it in the down loads. I think it was the last game submitted in 2004?
If you want a more 'swords & sorcery' style fantasy game, then you might want to look at Barbarians of Lemuria. Still, I would recomend it 'cos I wrote it!
Hey Simon, B o L was one of the first games I thought of reccomending. But I just made some quick suggestions that I thought might be easy to find. I remembered that B o L was a "24 year rpg." And I couldn't remember where it was stored. Not doubt that B o L is the complete package and ready to play. Un like some of my suggestions that would or could involve lots of paper work and imagination before the game/s start.
My game: A+ Fantasy Might be what you are looking for. The system is easy. I don't do anything about explaining the mechanics of role-playing in general so it helps if you have played some RPGs before and understand how all of that works.
