Squire solitaire RPG

Postby ErrinF » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:48 pm

Hello. I recently submitted a new fantasy RPG to 1km1kt. It's called 'Squire', a one player game that is played solitaire with a deck of poker cards. Here is the link:

I hope you enjoy the game. It's easy to play and should provide a decent challenge. Plus, it is an open ended RPG, albeit a solo one. I'd be interested to know how people fare in the quest of the Squire. Thanks. : )

Problems reading Squire

Postby SheikhJahbooty » Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:57 am

I had the same problem on my laptop which still uses acrobat reader 6.

On my desktop which has acrobat 7, I was able to see it without any problem.

If you were trying to view it with an older version of acrobat, you might want to upgrade and try again.

Bad pdf?

Postby ErrinF » Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:03 pm

That's news to me. I originally made the game in rtf form, then converted it to pdf. I haven't had any trouble, but I'll gladly send in another pdf to 1km1kt if need be. I hope Mr. Moore was able to get a good copy, as I really like his games (especially EZ Supers), and would hope he'd get a chance to fully peruse mine.

Hey! The upgrade of Acrobat worked and I am able to read the whole "Squire" document! Thanks to everyone for the help!

P.S. Keeton just informed me that my new version: Hi/Lo Heroes is available on-line.

Thanks!

Well done, Jeff

I actually downloaded Hi/Lo Heroes earlier today, Jeff, and you have outdone yourself, my man. The artwork is great and I like how you have expanded things a bit while still sticking to the basics of the simple system that made EZSupers so interesting and enjoyable to me.
Glad you got a working copy of Squire. It's great that you can see now how it is open-ended and therefore does indeed create it's own self-sufficient solo RPG universe as the victorious Squire goes from kingdom to kingdom slaying rampaging monsters.
I don't know if you've noticed yet, but I also made a new topic out of your suggestion that 1km1kt game designers each create a solo rpg of their own. I figure why not issue an open challenge and see what solo rpgs come of it. I certainly hope you will take the challenge to design your own solo rpg, Jeff. I'm not counting Squire as my submission to the challenge, and am instead creating a new one. Again, excellent work on Hi/Lo Heroes. Keep it coming.

I just read Squire Solitaire, and it seems like a solid system. I really like the fact that it's solo. My one problem is the font - I like it, but it became quite a chore to read after a while, and I found referencing back and forth a little harder than it might have been. Perhaps if it were used for headings only, each section would be clearer?

Like the others, I could only read the first half. You're probably right about the Mac/Windows issue... I'll get hold of Reader 7 soon so I can finish reading it. :)

Otherwise, it's a great game. I'm wondering how introducing Jokers to one or more of the decks as some sort of "wild card" might influence play...
