Entry Theme: Post Apocalypse

Postby Quixotic » Sun Mar 12, 2006 3:13 am

Theme: 1 session, 2 hours

Package two:

Law: The US has been bombed. There is no law and until there is, every man is for himself.

Team: The players become a team that has to work together combining their most basic survival skills to make it to a safeground.

Steel: Weapons like axes and crow bars have become more useful than guns, everyone's seen what a bomb can do. Steel is the most precious commodity needed to rebuild.

Goal: Find a central location to make a city or find a city to join. They'll have requests and needs which you may have to assist in fulfilling in order to be allowed to join.

It seems like the game idea revolves around the central conflict of whether or not they can find a safe place to live. So what kind of obstacle could stand in their way such that if they do not succeed within 2 hours (which could either represent only play time or both play time and in-game time), then they will fail entirely?

Something like a disease could definitely work. The place has been bombed, I assume nuclear? - what kinds of challenges would this cause the players' characters to face? For some reason, when I hear your idea of trying to find a safe place in a post-apocalypse, combined with a time limit, what comes to mind for me really strongly is ...

Also, do you want this game to approach the game primarily from a challenge/obstacle overcoming perspective? What kinds of challenges do you envision the players facing?

Do you want to delve into some of the social issues involved in the scenario instead? There are all kinds of interesting things at play here: Individualism vs. inter-dependence. Civilization vs. Savagery. What is Civilization in the first place? How much humanity are you willing to sacrifice to survive?

There are so many different and interesting directions you could take this in. How do you see it playing out?
