I have adapted into my own version of a solo fantasy game called Hex. The thing about it is... once I got into it I realized that the best solo RPG should have all its rules on its character sheet. That way everything is easily accessable and that will make solo game play so much easier. And that's what I did... the whole game is one sheet (and that includes the character sheet.) This whole thing got me thinking about the over at the Story Telling Games forum. That challenge is to create a character sheet that someone else can turn into an RPG. Then I thought... what if the Character sheet WAS the RPG.

That would be a great challenge I think!! Design a character sheet that is an RPG. That's right, all the rules for the RPG and how to play should be right on the character sheet. Such a game could be modular in such a way that new character sheets would have new and unique rules all their own. I think War Hammer Quest did something kinda like this... but not as a stand alone RPG... what do you think? Make an 1 or 2 page character sheet (my personal preference would be for one page) that IS a role-playing game.

Any takers??

A couple things

Tadk, you can choose any sort of setting you want for your Solo RPG game. It's basically all up to you what it will be, but I'll gladly throw out a few ideas if that will help. Perhaps an RPG that includes interdimensional travel would be interesting (such as Rifts or Lords Of Creation). A Call Of Cthulhu type horror solo rpg might be cool too, or something in Sherlock Holmes era England. Maybe a spy-type game would be a good submission, as I think we have yet to have an espionage solo RPG here. While I could throw out many more ideas, I think the most interesting idea for your solo RPG will be whatever you end up coming up with yourself. Good luck! I'm sure it'll be a cool game no matter what you decide.
And Jeff, I will take up your 'character sheet solo rpg', as it is a rather interesting idea. I just don't know when I'll be able to follow through. I've also downloaded the Doom Solo RPG; It looks pretty good and reminds me of one of my favorite solo games, Last Frontier: The Vesuvius Incident (by Fat Messiah games). Interesing too how the creator of the Doom RPG killed two birds with one stone by combining a video game with a solo game, thereby fulfilling both challenges.
I'm going to try to come up with a 24 hour video game RPG, but I'll have to think about that one. I actually have a couple ideas using some old video game RPG's from the Super Nintendo days (in this case, Might & Magic as well as Ogre Battle), but I doubt I could make those in 24 hours. Right now, I'm still working on my MegaMinis post-apocalyptic game, but I'll start working on the character sheet RPG as well as a 24 hour video game RPG when I get the chance.

Hi there

Yeah the solo RPG Character sheet was what i was thinking of asking Jeff what he was doing
Kinda of a head to head instead of just my own idea

I have a PC Game to try and do a 24 hour challenge too...going to play a few games and then dive into it...a RTS so going to be different I think...

Far as a 1 sheeter for horror..hmmm....

Okay, so I read Jeff's challenge and got straight to work on a Solo RPG/Character Sheet.

For now, find it here:
If you guys actually think it's any good (doubtful) I'll submit it to 1km1kt for the masses.

If it's totally incomprehensible I apologise, that's what I get for putting it together between the hours of 5 and 6 am.

Ok I just looked over the first submission to this challenge

is it supposed to be a solo rpg on a single char sheet or more straight up rpg that consists of a single page essentially?

Curious cause that is how i took it to be and how i am thinking and approaching it

or does it really matter.

Just wondering what you were thinking

I created HEX as a solo RPG on a single character sheet. But, when I posed the character sheet as an RPG challenge I wasn't thinking specifically of solo or solitaire RPGs I was thinking of table top RPGs with any number of players. As with anything the challenge is what you choose to make of it, but I really like the idea of a modular RPG system that uses a single character sheet to define itself but then adds or builds upon itself if additional character sheets are added.

My one-page Character Sheet RPG has been posted:

Good idea about listing the Character Sheet RPG Challenge seperately from the Solo-RPG challenge in the interest of clarity... I will start a new post, but I think I am going to wait for a week or so. I want people to get excited about the adapt a computer game challenge first. I plan to take that challenge this weekend. (3 days off for Labor Day makes this weekend perfect for that.)
