At the moment, ( as in the final judgement will have to wait a while...) Risus has all my attention.

VERY, Very rules lite and very much a case of making judgements on the spot with regard to what does and doesn't happen but very, very flexible none the less.

Mind you, when you can convert just about any setting in about an HOUR there is very little to complain about ......
Feel free to rummage through my stuff.......but remember, you get what you pay for!

I forgot about "Savage Worlds" but I feel it deserves a mention. My only problem with Savage Worlds is that I feel like the PDF only versions of their games that Pinnacle puts out are way over priced. I would think that the point of purchasing PDF format is to save some money for the consumer... but the Pinnacle books all seem pretty high for PDFs.

Still, I bought Savage Worlds in original hardback from my local game store... and I really really like it.

Tough call

I'd have to go with AD&D first edition circa 1979 or so. Other notable RPGs would be Call Of Cthulhu, Lords Of Creation, Champions, Villains & Vigilantes, Warhammer Fantasy, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Hard to narrow it down to just one, but I think the first advanced rules for D&D remain my favorite RPG system, especially with the modules of that era tied in.

My favorite rpg is Better Games' "Battleborn." The company is semi-defunct, I think it's only on the internet now, but it did produce paper'n'pencil tabletop games, all with a similar system designed by a gentleman named Red Rahm. "Battleborn" was the science-fiction rpg, squads of battle-suit soldiers in a very bizarre, and very cleverly imagined future. It was absolutely the best gaming representation of the battle-suit soldier genre, invented in literature by Robert Heinlein.

Having minimal time for gaming now, anything I use has to be SIMPLE. TwoHourWarGames' "Chain Reaction 2.0" and other games written by Ed Teixeira (owner, chief cook and bottlewasher for THWG) using a similar system designed as skirmish miniatures but so easily adapted to rpg, is my current heartthrob.

I fully expect to be beaten, but I started roleplaying with Mechwarrior Second Edition (and by roleplaying I mean roleplaying instead of roll playing. The first game I ever played I think was actually Mechwarrior First Edition. Or maybe Marvel Superheroes.) I had a great time with Mechwarrior Second Edition even though it was ridiculously easy to min/max

Wow.
Not an easy question.

Rules Cyclopedia basic D&D is up there. As is Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. (I have the second edition but haven't given it a swing yet) Top Secret/S.I.

But very recently I've gone through something of a renaissance of finding new faves.
Falling in love with Deep 7's 1PGs, especially Agent S.E.V.E.N. and Full Clip.
Iron Gauntlets is a wonderful rules-lite fantasy game with a old school feel.

But at the top of the list right now is, without a doubt, SAVAGE WORLDS.
Oh I love it so! I could go on and on about how awesome it is, but those that know...know.
And how flexible (of course, it's generic), but being generic it still has a real flavor. It doesn't feel generic. It's so close to perfect. I can hear The Shadow's laugh, I can see Conan drawing a wide broadsword, I see Fafhrd and Gray Mouser jumping down into the ally back to back, I hear the machine gun fire of the hero facing off against the vile Nazis, I feel the rumble of the starcrafts engines.

Or maybe I'm crazy. Who knows?

I play Savage Worlds. I ran the Evernight campaign... it was wonderful! I actually prefer the original WHFRP to the new second edition. I also love the D&D Cyclopedia (MachFront you sound like an old-school gamer like me.) Haven't played "Iron Gauntlets" but I am really curious about it... can you give me enough about it to make a decision on a purchase?
