I never said it was a bad thing. I still apply my own sound effects to books and games. I'm just amazed we have people here who played D&D the year it came out. The first real RPG I played was Rifts, published in 1991, and I didn't even know about it until 1998 or 99. How was D&D advertised or found for that matter, in those days?

At least I'm old enough to raise my glass and toast to another 30+ years of gaming for us all. La Chai'm!

I am not from the UK but I remember a series of ads fondly myself. I decided to see if I could find copies on line for nostalgia's sake... this is all that I have found so far.



Are these the ones that you mean?

I remember seeing those particular ads in some of the few Marvel comics I would have owned at the time.
The series I was refering to had a very similar layout and style, was B+W and the story "seemed" a bit darker.
I distinctly remember wererats and a lich or some form of undead sorcerer, being the opponents and i'm pretty certain the heroes actually "dispatched" them in a violent manner. :)
