Age Of Fabled Lands

Postby ErrinF » Tue May 08, 2007 12:27 pm

I just wanted to make a quick aside to Age Of Fable... I checked out your online RPG and it is really cool. I played it before reading the FAQ, and was wondering if it was inspired by Fabled Lands (the 'Blessings' were a clue)... after reading the FAQ, it was confirmed. You even have a link to the hard-to-find website with all the numerous gamebook pdfs available for download. That's where I got most of my Fabled Lands pdfs, though I had to join the Fabled Lands Yahoo group to get the rest (I have books 1 through 6 in pdf form). I have been a gamebook fan for many years now, but I only learned of Fabled Lands about a year or so ago. Really cool game, and I always thought there should be a gamebook series representing an open-ended world of adventure you could freely move about.

I thoroughly enjoyed your Age Of Fable game, and look forward to playing it some more. If you want to check out any of my games, I have quite a few solo gamebook-type RPGs. I also have a pen and paper online gamebook at RPG Laboratory called 'Adventuria Online RPG' that is kind of a mix between Fighting Fantasy. the Talisman board game, and Fabled Lands. It's a work-in-progress, but it can be played by others as I continually add more pages to it (each page represents a different section of the land). Unlike your game which does all the die rolling and documentation for you (and does it very well, I might add), you need pen, paper, and your own dice to play. I kind of like it that way, but maybe down the road I will make an online, automated version like yours. For now, I like my game quite a bit as an e-book that can only be played at RPG Laboratory.

Here's some links if you want to check out any of my games:

Thanks again for the link to your very cool online gamebook/RPG! I will thoroughly enjoy playing it, and look forward to how you expand the world you have created.

Working on Scrabble-based one page RPG

Postby ErrinF » Tue May 08, 2007 2:18 pm

I'm actually working on two character sheet RPGs right now for this challenge... one is 'Leave The Bronx' as I have mentioned before, but now I have added a new one that will probably be called 'Scrabble Battle Fantasy RPG'. It's going to use letters from the board game Scrabble just as my game 'Quiz & Dragons RPG' used cards from Trivial Pursuit. I've laid out most of my ideas for the Scrabble-based RPG over at RPG Laboratory; Here's a link to the blog there concerning this idea:

Though I didn't have this Scrabble RPG when I started this challenge, I'm primarily moving forward with it because I can do it in one page. 'Leave The Bronx' will be more like my character sheet RPGs from last time, but this Scrabble game will be much different.

Its done

Postby Chainsaw Aardvark » Wed May 09, 2007 2:55 pm

I just submitted Sputnik Lost. Its a pseudo-historical document, a radio transcript of a long denied and hidden Soviet moonshot. Its technically about the Zond program rather than the well known satilite, but Sputnik just means traveler, and has been applied to a number of failed or unrecovered missions. (Cosmos is another popular cover name for recon platforms and failures.)

Does the format make sense? I tried to integrate the mechanics into the text, then summarized them at the end. Is there enough there to play? The players but are given no description of what they find, in theory, establishing that is the point of the game.

Sputnik Lost is way cool

Postby ErrinF » Wed May 09, 2007 4:52 pm

Upon first read, I thought I fully grasped Sputnik Lost, but now I think I need to scrutinize the system a little better to see if I do indeed fully get the game. If I can't figure it out for myself, I'm sure I'll have a question or two for you.

Overall, it looks great, is a great concept, and has a great yet simple system. Good job. I really like the submissions we are getting, and I need to get the ball rolling on finishing 'Leave the Bronx RPG' which will be my first submission for this challenge. Then I'll do my Scrabble one pager, then possible a third. I did three character sheet RPGs last time, so I'm aiming to do three this time.
