Simple Supers

Postby ErrinF » Thu May 10, 2007 7:03 pm

Well, I went and made my first submission for this challenge. Unexpectedly, I decided to make a superhero one pager out of the blue while 'Leave The Bronx' and 'Scrabble Battle' were still in the works.

So I made Simple Supers RPG in a 24 hour period. It's pdf is available for download at RPG Lab using this link:

Soon, it will be among the 1km1kt collection and available for download at it's own page here.

Unlike other one page RPGs I have made, this one is a standard roleplaying game and not a solo RPG. I thought I'd try making such a game in the one page format, and I'm glad I did... I think Simple Supers RPG is a small yet viable roleplaying system. And it's about time I made a superhero RPG, as that has always been one of my favorite types of RPGs.

I should also note that I now have a fourth one page RPG I want to make for this challenge. Since I was able to pull off a superhero RPG in one page, I also got the idea to pull off another type of RPG I've been meaning to make... a radio horror RPG based upon the horror radio dramas that used to run on radio. In this case, I want to make an RPG based on the BBC's horror radio drama 'Fear On Four'. I want it to be a simple storytelling type of RPG that uses a single four-sided die for all game mechanic. Should all fit on one page, and I can even include a web address in the RPG that links to a page with all the Fear On Four shows in mp3 form. Looking forward to making the Fear On Four RPG.

p.s. I almost forgot... Simple Supers RPG is a one page homage to Jeff Moore's Hi/Lo Heroes, as well as a recognition of Jeff helping start the first character sheet challenge here. I also owed Jeff a 'thank you' after the congratulations he included for me in his game 'Phantasy Star: Ragol's Curse'. Thanks, Jeff! Enjoy Simple Supers, my man.

This challenge rolls along

Postby ErrinF » Fri May 11, 2007 1:12 pm

So now my game Simple Supers is available here at 1km1kt, it's proper home now though it can still be downloaded at it's own blog at RPG Laboratory.

And I see the Trollblade Ref Guide has appearred, something I've been eagerly awaiting. I can't wait to peruse Trollblade in it's entirety now. Liam, I'm not sure if you interact much at RPG Laboratory (the sister site to this site), but I'd like to put up a blog there where people can download Trollblade, read it, play it, and discuss it. With your permission, I'll take care of all that over at RPG Lab, unless you'd rather do it yourself. You should definitely join RPG Laboratory if you haven't yet. Either way, thanks for the very cool Trollblade one pager!

Well, I'm off to work on my next one pager called 'Fear On Four RPG'. I also hear that there are several other one pagers in the works that might be finished any day now. That's the beauty of these character sheet RPGs... you can make them very quickly.

I am thoroughly enjoying this challenge and the games that have resulted from it. Much gratitude to everybody who has submitted or will submit a character sheet rpg for this challenge. You people rock! : )

MACE: Martial Arts Card Engine

Postby Relentless96 » Sat May 12, 2007 2:48 am

It is now official, MACE lite should be uploaded soon. The end product was two pages (one each side). I will admit that the core of the game so far has been combat, so there is no mention in the rules at this point about task resolution. However, for those of you looking for a fun game of bashing in your best friends head, give MACE a go.
What I am really looking forward to is the responses from others regarding it. Mainly on the rules side, there is always somthing that isn't obvious to you but sticks out like a sore thumb to others. This has also allowed me to get an idea of how to expand on the lite version for the complete MACE, I now have a basic framework to playtest and work on.
Again, thanks to ErrinF for the idea, I at least have now got somthing posted with my name on it (better than nothing ^_^).

Correction for Simple Supers RPG

Postby ErrinF » Sun May 13, 2007 12:42 pm

I just sent in a newly corrected version of Simple Supers RPG. It should be available for download here soon in place of the old version.

Basically, there was one minor mistake in the game concerning Lose Points. Originally, I had it so that having more Lose Points than the Power Points you have spent meant being taken out of an adventure. But this was flawed in that there could be heroes or villains with 12 Power Points spent that could then never be taken out of an adventure. So, I corrected the rule to be about having more Lose Points than the Power Points spent minus 1. That way, heroes and villains with 12 Power Points spent can still partake in an adventure and it won't screw everything up.

By the way, here's a link to a set of rules which might be useful for people trying to do a one-page RPG:

this is the abridged version of the Tunnels and Trolls rules, which was used in their many single-player gamebooks.

Tested for once...

Postby Chainsaw Aardvark » Mon May 14, 2007 1:55 pm

OK, I'm working on three (possibly four) new games, though I've been a bit delayed by allergies to an unkown irritant, and a busy weekend (I turned 24 on Sunday).

Anyway, one of those games was a pirate war game, with the catch being that the first step was to make the playing field - fold a sheet of paper into a hexagon. The rules look good, and sound right to my friends - we even put together a board to see if the directions were coherently written. Unfortunately, an 8 inch wide board is too small for 3/4 inch ships that move 3 inches a turn. One of those things I should have worked out in my head, but I'm pretty lousy at visualizing sizes and distances. So, I'll need to change it to include directions for making a more conventional tabletop game. But for once, one of my games was tried out by my friends - normally I can't get any actual play feedback.

As to the other games in the works. Two are in fact linked. On one side is the rules for playing the humans working on the Genesis FTL project. The other is for playing the Utahraptors they cloned to act as living robots. If you have ever read the book "Raptor Red" you know what I'm shooting for.

A final possibility is a game revolving around demons on vacation. A small group decides, that participating in the war of good and evil is rather pointless - god is always going to win in the end. So they skip town, head to the mortal plane, and decide to party. (No I haven't seen the film Dogma) Of course, there are demons who disapprove of this, as well as Angels who who want the players to get back to work as well. (The universe is on the carrot and the stick approach - and seraphim don't like it when the system breaks down.)
