Fear On Four RPG

Postby ErrinF » Tue May 15, 2007 1:14 pm

Okay, I've finished my second submission for this challenge: Fear On Four RPG. Fear On Four was a horror radio show that aired on the BBC in the late 80's/early 90's. Fear On Four RPG is a simple storytelling RPG based on the radio show.

I've sent the pdf file into 1km1kt.net (I'm sure it will pop up soon), and have the same pdf available for download at RPG Lab in the blog there dedicated to the Fear On Four RPG. Here's the link:

Enjoy!

Hey all participating in this challenge... I just wanted to let you know that I have a blog over at RPGLaboratory.com for keeping a running list of all the submissions so far. I think I have every submission included so far in the list. Please let me know if I'm missing anything on the 1km1kt side. Here is the link:

Dungeons & Vigilantes RPG + Villains & Dragons RPG

Postby ErrinF » Mon May 21, 2007 7:41 pm

Okay, so I ended up writing not one but two new submissions for this challenge, albeit two RPGs that use the exact same system and are interactive. What I wanted to make was a game that was sort of a Dungeons & Dragons & Villains & Vigilantes RPG combined onto one page. To do so, I finally fleshed out a system for character creation and conflict that I had been thinking of since the first challenge.

Dungeons & Vigilantes RPG and Villains & Dragons RPG have been sent into 1kmk1t and will be available for download here soon. In the meanwhile, I have the pdf files for both RPGs available for download at RPG Laboratory. Here is the link:

Enjoy!

Peace, Errin : )

Tranzistor Zenith RPG

Postby ErrinF » Sun Jun 03, 2007 8:39 pm

I made another character sheet RPG called 'Tranzistor Zenith RPG'. It is a mecha RPG based on the cartoon Tranzor Z. I also made a Ze Master's Guide pdf that expands the original character sheet RPG into a more campaign-like RPG with a GM and PCs.

Here is the link to the Tranzistor Zenith RPG page at 1km1kt:

Enjoy!

I wanted to add a comment here about the whole Single Sheet RPG Challenge. I remember telling Errin a while back (in this very string of posts) that I felt the 1 Page RPG was a sort of "Been there. Done that." kind of challenge for me. That I had successfully created something for one page and didn't feel an overwhelming need to revisit the challenge. I was working on other things and felt pretty consumed by those... so, I "opted out" of the challenge as it were.

That having been said, and done. I recently found a new appreciation for the Single Sheet RPG Challenge. I decided to take the project I was working on right now and develop it on a single page. This was mainly about getting all the little notes and ideas and concepts that I had for the game out on paper. This wasn't about creating a game specifically for the challenge so much as taking what I had and shaping it to fit that mold.

The great part is that the limitations of the format proved to be a boon rather than a liability. By shaping my project to fit onto a single piece of paper. I had to reorganize, clean up and sharpen my game content. Fat was trimmed away and processes were simplified and the end result was a much better game.

Suddenly I find that I am not thinking... "Oh, I don't need to create another One Sheet RPG. I've done that already." I am instead thinking, "The One Sheet RPG is a great development tool. I want to start all my RPG design projects this way."

Do you have an RPG design project that you have been struggling with? Have you thought many times about attempting the "24 Hour RPG Challenge" but just can't seem to find 24 continuous hours to squeeze together? I propose that the "One Page RPG Challenge" is for you. I submit that as you get into the project you will find that you are constantly motivated by the manageability of the project goal. "It's only 1 page. I can do that!"

As you finally fill your page, you find you have several more pages of notes ... you have to make choices ... what's worth keeping and what should be pushed to the side for now? You make choices that will help you as a designer to define what is important to your system. You will learn about your own work. And in the end, you will have a small manageable core document from which to relaunch your ideas. A true foundation.

If you are an RPG game designer, take the "One Sheet RPG Challenge."

Come on... I dare ya!

LOL, Jeff.
Ya, I recall that when this 2007 character sheet RPG started, you decided to take a pass. I was slightly bummed, but I also wondered how long you'd be able to resist the temptation once the one page RPGs started popping up here and at RPG Lab. And now I see you have been born again, preaching to the unconverted to make their own one pager! : )
Thanks for the encouragement of this challenge, Jeff, and I am glad you have found it to be a learning experience. I for one did not expect this challenge to be as fruitful as it has been, but the RPG Lab crowd embracing the concept and taking the challenge really helped expand the one page genre. I know I ended up making quite a few more games than expected... and I still plan to revisit the challenge before the year ends, so as to make a few more one pagers before the challenge concludes.
