Answers to Ravonsron's...

Postby bal3000 » Sun Sep 02, 2007 8:43 pm

....Qs about ArKaNa.

1 - I hadn't given this much thought as I designed the whole of ArKaNa in about 4 hours! I'd say keep a track of every '6' rolled. Use these to increase the trained value at a cost of a number of '6s' equal to the new trained level times 10, with a maximum trained value equal to the natural value times 2. IE. to get a trained value from 2 to 3 costs 30 '6s'.

2-To increase a value from 3 to 5 for a single round costs 9 DP because it costs 4 DP to go from 3 to 4 and an additional 5 DP to go from 4 to 5. AND yes, I'd say that my description is "mangled" for want of a better word. Roll on the next edition!

3- I'm not fussed if characters can't carry that much.

4- A passive difficulty is the same as an oppposing ability except that it represents the "world". And yes, the"world" rolls more dice if the passive difficulty is higher than the character's ability value.

5- You answered this in the first line. "Highest single roll wins a round". If there is no single highest roll then a draw results. It makes a character with a higher ability score to be MORE likely to win because he's rolling more than 1 die BUT he can still roll low on ALL his dice rolls while his single die rolling opponent rolls a 6!

6 - sure. Any house rule is OK here for combining efforts. I have no strong feelings here as I've seen different methods for handling such situations. whatever you feel is best.

7 - i wanted magic to be something erratic, unprovable and potentially VERY advantagise. I imagined something similar to the magic in Neil Gaimen's book "American Gods" were the magic "happins" but is never "seen" to happin.

It's a year-long challenge

You still have plenty of time to contribute, tad. I'll cross my fingers and hope to get at least one character sheet RPG out of you this challenge... : )

I've made some changes to the ArKaNa rules, mainly the INITIATIVE and DAMAGE rules, and altered the PDF accordingly. I've sent it to Keeton so hopefully it should be up soon.

New submissions on the way, plus one that isn't

Okay, so there will be a few more entries for this challenge that will soon have their own 1km1kt page. For now, these new one page RPGs can be downloaded at RPG Laboratory using the links provided.

First up, there is my game Tindalos RPG. We had an 'on the fly' challenge during the month of October to create a RPG that involved unconventional monsters, and I ended up making a Lovecraft inspired one pager about the Hound Of Tindalos. It can be downloaded for now by using this link:

Next, there is my game The Isle Of Sorrow RPG. It is a fantasy solo RPG wherein a player is given more free choice to shape their game. It also has a mini-RPG at the end of it that functions as a dueling game. It can be downloaded for now by using this link

Lastly, there is a solo game I made but will not be officially entering into this challenge. It's called The Wizard's Test RPG and is about an apprentice wizard trying to earn his higher title via a quest in a mystic tower. It is still a good game, but not quite what I was aiming for. Still, you can download it from it's RPG Lab blog using this link:

There is another game called "It Lives!" which is a one page RPG not made by me, but was made for the RPG Lab Halloween RPG challenge. I'm sure it will have it's own 1km1kt page in the near future. If you ever want to see the current list of entries for this challenge, just use this link:

Enjoy!

Peace, Errin : )
