Remind us of your pledge...
Pledged (to myself) to finish my house ruled version of the old (MEGs) DC heroes game. 2d10, tables, APs that double with every point. Also pledged to combine Basic D&D and T&T into one game. Been meaning to finish this for a year or more.
What progress have you made toward it?
So far I've ditched the tables, come up with a completely new hero point mechanic which gives the player a resource to manage and works quite well in playtesting (thus far), called the APs Measurement Points (MPs) and APS stands for Abilities/Powers/Skills. In other words what started out as a house ruled DC Heroes is turning out to be something else. The fantasy BD&D/T&T will be concentrated on after the heroes game is finished.
How are you maintaining your pace on your project?
Running a play test on my play by post forum and adding new rules as I go. Picking up the writing when I get a spare moment on laptop.
Have you hit any problems?
Time mostly. With 2 young kids, work and nagging wife, real life presents more of a challenge than can easily be overcome by stat+skill+2d10 vs target number (doubles explode, like my temper at times). After days of having to leave it sometimes it's hard to get back in it.
How do you plan to overcome your problems?
Alter time, speed up the harvest or teleport me off this rock (for some peace and quiet).
Are there any problems you can see coming up that might stop you?
Motivation. I always seem to hit a block with regards motivation at some point. Hoping I can push through it. I might try hand writing the project rather than typing it. I always seemed to have better luck with finishing games when I was younger that way.
What is the % probability that you will complete your task?
Optimistic? 100%. Realistic? 50%. I'm up to the combat section (having done the core mechanics section) which means the biggy is after that - character creation (with stacks of powers to describe) might be quite good fun and something to look forward to or a real grind. Combat should be a breeze. Famous last words...
