Anyone a boardgamer as well?

Postby Praetorian » Sun Feb 06, 2005 8:33 pm

If you are- you really need to check out the products Fantasy Flight Games is producing.

They recently came out with the magnificent War of the Ring. WotR is a grea game- lots of nifty fiddly bits, good rules, and some great gameplay. Really, really worth the price.

The real kicker is the 3rd edition of Twilight Imperium. I have yet to buy this beauty... but, well, look here:

This looks liker it is going to be the game of space conquest for the tabletop. I can't wait to get it- but with a $80 price tag... it is not for the light hearted.

So, anyone else out there like boardgames?

As far as "light" card style games- I cannot suggest Colossal Arena enough. Reprinted by FFG it isa great multi-player game- especially the bidding sequence where strategy plays vdifferently from each phase of the game (forcing players to be flexible and creative). Really good looking cards as well.

The king is War of the Ring, however. It is such a beautiful game. Great (in-depth_ rules, amazing pieces, amazing playing boards, great cards. There is honestly nothing wronmg with this game (and the fact that it can be played with 2-4 player- my poptimum number- is bonus).

On off days our gaming group, usually opts for board games. The usual options are Lunch Money, Munchkin, and Gloom. But our favorite is Carcassonne in its many incarnations

Lately, my friends and I have been playing a lot of War of the Ring by Fantasty Flight games. It is really quite a good game- with good balance (though vastly different play styles). There is a supplement slated for release- so I am pretty keen on getting that.

Who has time for boardgames? If I had the time I'd play 'em. Ah, Risk is an old favorite.
