SPF - The HypnoMechanical Theater, in Brazil

The natives are excited and continually slap the beast's carcass, and then walk over and slap Richards
across the back. Richards pays them little heed as he works with Pedro and the village "Doctor" to
patch up Brisbane for the journey back to the village.

It is not long until a litter bearing Brisbane makes way for the village, followed by several of
the Natives carrying the odd peice of scattered gear. Richards watches the party vanish into the
brush before drawing his bowie knife.

Pedro remains near Richards helping as he sets to the task of dressing out the two ton carcass.

It is several hours past sundown when Richards and his escort finally return to the village.
Several hours that the recovering Brisbane had to endure the administrations of a nearly
hysterically distraught Anne.

Hearing that Richards has returned she sets about to give him a peice of her mind, but upon
seeing his gore streaked face and visera coated form he gives him a wide berth. Richards walks
past her and stops before the hut in which Brisbane lay.

Richards waves Pedro close, "Pedro let the headman know where we've cached the meat.
They can do what they want with it.Then get the skin, head, and claws loaded on the boat. I'm going to
sit a spell with Brisbane." Pedro nods and starts to head off on this last set of tasks when Richards stops
him, and offers his hand, Pedro takes it "Thank you Pedro, as a freind thank you."

Pedro nods slaps Richards on the shoulder and sets about taking care of these last few things.
Richards then enters the hut and sees Brisbane a little worse for wear.

"Hey Bris." Richards is not sure what else to say, or if there is anything he should say.
Instead he grabs a nearby stool and takes a seat near the door. Rolling up a smoke he lights it,
"When you're ready I'll make sure you get home." and then sits there in silence waiting for when
Brisbane is ready to leave.


I'd play again if there is interest. and in that regard I do the following with my "reward"

Attributes:
Story: 9 (8+1 left over from attribute increase.)
Intelligence: 8
Will: 3
Honor: 7
Agility: 3
Perception: 2 (1 +1point increase @ 2sp cost)
Strength: 3
Charm: 1

If we do try again, I will be tweaking Richards' gear slightly, but we can cross that bridge
when we get to it.

PS I can probably post a little more once Brisbane reacts to the current stuff, or changes
the scene to the boat or where ever.

Lets see if ES wants to continue, one of his Story Seeds was "one shot". ES if you even wanted to make up a different character,that's fine. If anyone else has been pondering if they want to jump in, now's a good time. I also think I'll start another thread for simplicity.

I've got to remember to post the stats for the Mapingauri on the wiki.

Thanks for the game, everybody! I'd love to continue, but nowadays I'd rather concentrate on my thesis and the 10 million other works I have to finish I'll come up with an epilogue later! I hope this play-test was useful for the development of SPF.

Absolutely ES, you said before that there were some demands on your time so don't feel bad. If things lighten up and you want to jump in, just say the word.

Here's the follow up I mentioned. I really need to get better at running PBP games I guess a bunch of the ideas I was having were too complicated for the long timescales that a PBP requires. I also need to keep things simpler for players unfamiliar with the game.

A couple of things I would have liked to do. . .

The mayor was supposed to follow the group and abduct Anne while they were out hunting and the men would have to go rescue her. That was based on Drakeknight's Swashbuckling seed so I figured Drakeknight could be off doing that while the hunt was going on but he disappeared. I figured ES could choose which effort he wanted to assist with.

I was trying to keep things in focus but my efforts were too complicated. The idea was to have the Mapingauri show up while the theater was in operation because it was attracted to it. I couldn't figure out how to signal that without giving it away. I figured that if the first attempt to hunt it failed the players would have to think of something else. Still that could take a lot of turns going back and forth with failures trying to catch it in a traditional way so I scrubbed it and let the numbers fall as they were. The result was still fun and much simpler so it's all good. I just need to learn to condense my story ideas.

Sometimes I felt like the players were feeling pressure if they didn't have time to post. I would rather have things relaxed, but progress is also good. I'm trying to figure out how to keep it casual but still keep things going. If anyone knows of useful suggestions, please let me know.

Expanding on the Deadline thing . . .

Simple works

Next session, set a deadline for player posts. Make it flexible but keep to it.
(ie after you set up a scene players have 3 days to do actions/responses before
you move to the next stage of that scene.)
IF you do use a deadline system, use one everyone agrees to. If everyone has the time to post
daily, then use a 24 hour one. If 75% of the group can only doe once a week, pick a day and use that.

PbP is more about description and dialogue then mechanics. SPF has a GREAT mechanic
for PbP, but give (a little) more room for players to expand on ideas.

Some don't like doing mechanics in PbP, so it maybe an option for those who are not
as keen on choosing methods/tricks, to allow them just to describe what they wish their
character to do, and maybe also what they hope happens; and then you (as the GM) could
assign the methods/tricks that best fit what is described.

Me personally I liked going through the tricks and picking stuff

It was a good game, and as everyone was new to the system it went rather well.

As for complications, don't fret them. PbP are very fluid and wander all over, so just adapt
the story as you see fit, think more about the "Honor" values then the story seeds. If everyone
has seeds to do a "Great Hunt" and we all have a "friend in Need" Honor value, use it to expand
the story.

Just on a side not this is actually the FIRST PbP that I've taken part in that actually had a mechanic.
Most PbP just go with the flow, and as long as the players aren't murdering each other . . . anything goes

Again I can't stress this enough. It was a GREAT Session. You have what I feel is an awesome setup
for a PbP system.

It's been over two years since those fateful days, and Brisbane is almost fully recovered from his close encounter in the jungles of Brazil. Standing in his study he seems to be reflecting on those events when his butler enters, bearing a box.

"This just arrived in the post sir."

Brisbane nods as his man places the parcel on his desk before leaving the room. Taking his time Brisbane makes his way over and starts to open the parcel. The post mark is from the Americas. Inside is lots of straw packing, but also a small envelope. He opens it to reveal a hand written note . . .

Dear Bris;

Its been awhile since I've had a chance to speak to ya. Inside the box you'll find a memento of our excursion in Brazil.
Hope it finds you hale and healthy. If you are ever in my neck of the woods again, look me up.

Setting the letter aside Brisbane digs into the packing to pull out a beautifully handcrafted Mapinguari claw handled bowie knife, and Mapinguari frilled hide sheath, both items etched with Brisbane's initials.

Just had to post something to remember this adventure run with. Cheers.
